Albania: A Buzz Interview with Dorant Ekmekciu for the CEE Legal Matters

Hoxha, Memi & Hoxha partner Dorant Ekmekciu recently spoke for the CEE Legal Matters magazine on recent developments in Albania.

Albania’s start to the year has been largely shaped by the national elections held on May 11, leading to a general slowdown in legal and business developments, according to Dorant.

“The electoral process absorbed much of the government’s and institutions’ focus,” Ekmekciu notes, highlighting that the legal sector’s attention has primarily centered on the appointment of key judicial positions – most notably, the new head of the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) and the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court.

On the economic front, foreign investment has been relatively subdued, with two high-profile real estate projects standing out – a development on Sazan Island reportedly linked to Jared Kushner, and the Grand Park Skyline hotel project led by designer Philipp Plein.

Aside from these, broader investment activity remains limited, with few major developments anticipated in the near term.
